EHIC to GHIC
If your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) has expired and you're normlly resident in the UK, (GB & NI) then the following information maybe of some help. The Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) replaced the EHIC on 1/1/21. Cards currently still in date are still accepted, but if its expired then you'll need to apply for a new one, To apply, make sure you are applying through the NHS website, its a free process and very easy. Unfortuately there are webstes out there who are set up to look lke official NHS websites, but will charge you around £30 per application, there is absolutely no reason to use them to apply. If you are asked for Card Details or money is requested from you leave that website straight away,
As with all travel, its advisable to have your own travel insurance, as having it and the EHIC/GHIC can dramtaically reduce any potential medical bills,

If you are unsure that you are on the correct website, check with a relative or contact Jim in TMI Admin,
add: If you’re applying from Northern Ireland, from Spring 2021 you’ll have the choice of a standard GHIC with a union flag or one with a plain background.
