County Cork
Dunbeacon Camping and Glamping
"We are a small hilly campsite with lots of mature trees so big buses are no good really. Ideally what we can cater for are VW Hippy vans, externally unmodified builder type vans and relatively small caravans. Anything with a bubble over the drivers cab generally struggles, something like an Eriba we love to see coming. As motorhomes and caravans are not the main thrust of our business we don't have an elsan point or a proper way of disposing black or grey waste so when we do have campervans or caravans we make sure to let them know and of course they use the showers and kitchen which are free of charge. There is a charge for the washing machine and dryer but showers, cooker etc are all free. Electricity hook ups are all over the campsite, 32 amp and free. We really only have 1 largish hardstand and one small hardstand after that we are putting people either in large flat pitches or beside the pitch itself. This is fine in the good weather but not something we are encouraging as the pitches would get destroyed in bad weather.
We are only after taking over the site and it wasn't operating properly for many years so we are only really finding our feet after our first season (2021). We don't really have a closing or opening date for campers and will take anyone at any time really. We can do this as we live on site. Our house is literally metres from the campsite across a small stream behind a hedge. The reality is that we haven't had a guest since September and are not expecting anyone for another couple of months but we would never turn away the weary traveller.
We also have teepee's which are really impressive and very plush inside. Even if you're not staying in one, waking up and seeing them outside your door is really cool. They add something very special to the site"
